New Church History Appointment

ETS is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Zachary Purvis as Programme Leader and Lecturer in Church History.

ETS is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Zachary Purvis as Programme Leader and Lecturer in Church History.

Dr Purvis grew up in Portland, Oregon in the USA. He is an alumnus of Westminster Seminary California, where he earned an MA in 2011. He then completed his DPhil at the University of Oxford in 2014.

Dr Purvis has taught and researched widely. In 2019–21 he was Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the University of Göttingen (Germany), and in 2018–19 he was Robert M. Kingdon Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). In 2015–18 he held the Leverhulme Early Career Postdoctoral Fellowship in Divinity at the University of Edinburgh.

ETS Principal, Rev Iver Martin, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Zack as a new member of staff. His work will vary between supervision, publication and teaching and we are confident that his contribution to the life and work of ETS will be immense.”

Dr Purvis is currently a member in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). He and his wife, Jessica, have two children.
