Edinburgh Theological Seminary recently held its first annual conference on the theme, Knowing Christ. Over 160 attendees from across the UK (and even the Atlantic Ocean!) joined special guests Rev Dr Sinclair Ferguson and Rev Jonty Rhodes, ETS Principal Iver Martin, and ETS lecturers Rev Daniel Sladek, Rev Dr Benjamin Castaneda, Dr Zachary Purvis, and ETS adjunct and nearby minister Rev Dr Cory Brock for the terrific event held at Stockbridge Parish Church on Saturday, 10 September 2022.
Speakers explored various facets of doctrine and life as they touched upon ‘the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus our Lord’ (Phil. 3:8). No theme better describes the purpose of the conference, which exists to encourage the church, the seminary, and the broader public community in its reflection on theology, piety, and practice.
Conference attendees received custom ETS tote bags and a number of copies of the books Theology for Ministry: How Doctrine Affects Pastoral Life and Practice, a new collection of essays in honour of Sinclair Ferguson; Man of Sorrows, King of Glory by Jonty Rhodes; and Second Timothy: The Lectio Continua Expository Commentary on the New Testament by Michael Brown.
It was a beautiful, sunny day filled with great discussion, food, and fellowship, and capped with stirring singing of Psalm 16 and Psalm 121. Special thanks go out to student and family volunteers for helping make the day a great success. We are looking forward already to next year. Stay tuned for the 2023 Annual Conference details!
