The first post-Covid ETS Opening Service took place on Monday 6th September which marked the beginning of a new academic year for students and staff at ETS. The guest speaker was Dr Chris Wright, who focused on the question, “Theological education: what’s it all for and why does it matter?”
Drawing on three key Biblical characters: Abraham, Moses and Paul, Dr Wright stressed that God’s overall purpose in redemptive history was to provide the knowledge of himself in such a way as to pass it on through forthcoming generations. Hence the Bible provides a clear pattern for what we call “theological education” today.
The evening was both an encouragement and welcome change from the last 18 months which have been dominated by Zoom classes.

On Tuesday morning we were delighted to welcome new students to ETS, both virtually and in-person. With classes commencing properly on Wednesday, we pray that this will be a fruitful and enjoyable year for all our students.
